The best diving &
snorkeling in Baja
Villa Los
Frailes is located adjacent to the
Cabo Pulmo National Marine Park. People come from all
over the world to enjoy the diving where you can explore the
only living coral reef in Western North America, home to over
800 species of marine animals.
Marine life that are
abundant in Cabo Pulmo and Los Frailes include whales,
Mobula Rays and
Whale Sharks. Mobula Rays and whales can often be seen
jumping in the waters in front of the villa. Bahia Los
Frailes is burting with life with fish, rays and whales jumping
all day long.
The Los
Frailes
sea lion colony, located a five minute boat ride to the
north, is accessible using the kayaks and outboard boats that
are included with the vacation rental. There is nothing
better than snorkeling in warm water with these marine mamals.
There are
three dive shops to choose from in Cabo Pulmo. Diving can
be arranged by contacting the Villa's caretaker.
The
snorkeling is outstanding both along the shallow coral reef in
nearby Cabo Pulmo and in the very protected cove of beautiful
Bahia Los Frailes. This area offers perfect spots for beginners,
children and experienced snorkelers alike. Snorkel gear and
snorkel tours are available in Cabo Pulmo. Visit the
underwater
photo gallery for additional photos and videos.

Swim in the Warm
Waters
The swimming is safe in the
protected cove. Gentle surf and warmer water temperatures make
Los Frailes bay an ideal place for swimming.
Unbelievable Fishing in the Sea of Cortez
Baja's East Cape region is
famous for its excellent fishing. Seasonally you will find
dorado, tuna, wahoo, grouper and marlin. The
villa caretaker,
Salomon, can arrange fishing trips through local fishermen with
pangas. Their rates are around $60/person for 4 hours and
they provide all the rods, reels, and lures.
These fishermen are excellent
and have a lifetime of experience. Many of our guests have
returned with too many fish to eat and take home. Not
surprising when you can actually watch the fish jump out of the
water from the patio. Take a look at our
fishing photo album and
the seasonal fishing chart.

Windsurf in the bay or Find a Good Break
The summer months are the
best time for surfing. Some of the best surfing on the
East Cape is a short drive away at
9 Palms. Any summer morning you may see a caravan of
resident Cabo Pulmo surfers heading down the coast to their
favorite spots. If you surf, just hang out in Cabo Pulmo
and you'll surely find someone who can point you in the right
direction. Cabo Pulmo also is home to many seasonal wind
surfers. Their high season is the winter months.
Wind surfing is good in this area and north of here is Los
Barrilles, a wind surfer's Mecca.

Backcountry hiking
in the hills
There is a
remarkable hiking trail in nearby Cabo Pulmo. Its a
two-hour trail that loops around Pulmo Mountain called the
"Vista Trail". After the hike, treat yourself to something
to eat at one of Cabo Pulmo's three restaurants.
Miles of sandy
beach all to yourself
The beach at
Los Frailes is a long, wide white sand beach where you can walk
for hours without seeing a soul. For the avid shell
collector we can direct to you a beach known for its abundance
of beautiful shells. Or take the kids and a picnic and enjoy
exploring the remains of an old shipwreck at another nearby
beach.
